Actor Thato Molamu yesterday launched a film academy in Eersterus outside Pretoria.
Known as Leaders in Motion Academy, the film school is a partnership between the TV personality and the South African Creative Industries Incubator (Saci), founded by Freddie and Beth Arendse.
Beth said Saci was founded nine months ago because they wanted to empower young people.
Molamu said one of the reasons he started the academy was because he wanted to create something meaningful.
“One of the things we aim for is to change how our stories are told, especially black and coloured people.
“If we tell negative stories we will never succeed in fighting crime. We want to inspire young kids.”
Molamu said that the course will offer photography, sound engineering, graphic design and film.
The first intake of 100 students will be in class from September.
The film course is free and it will offer meals at no cost to the students.
